چکیده

Femtosecond two-dimensional infrared spectroscopy has been used to investigate the coupling between the NH stretch vibrational modes of NH groups in the macrocycle and thread of a benzylic amide rotaxane as a potential time-resolved indicator of rotaxane shuttling. The peptide was used to test the two-dimensional infrared setup. We were able to observe the coupling between the asymmetric and the symmetric stretch of the free amine group in two different conformers proving the system was capable of measuring the interaction between coupled NH stretch modes. Broadband pump-probe experiments have been conducted to probe the dynamics of the rotaxane in the NH stretch region. Two-dimensional infrared spectra were made of the rotaxane. A possible cross-peak was found between the NH stretch modes. A definitive crosspeak has yet to be observed. The performance of a specialised electrochemical IR sample cell was tested and was found to be suitable for the conducting of 2D IR while performing electro chemistry on the sample.

Time-resolved vibrational spectroscopy of a molecular shuttle.

Time-resolved vibrational spectroscopy is used to investigate the inter-component motion of an ultraviolet-triggered two-station molecular shuttle. The operation cycle of this molecular shuttle involves several intermediate species, which are observable in the amide I and amide II regions of the mid-IR spectrum. Using ab initio calculations on specific parts of the rotaxane, and by comparing th...

Single-beam spectrally controlled two-dimensional Raman spectroscopy

Vibrational modes are often localized in certain regions of a molecule, and so the coupling between these modes is sensitive to the molecular structure. Two-dimensional vibrational spectroscopy can probe the strength of this coupling in a manner analogous to two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy, but on ultrafast timescales. Here, we demonstrate how twodimensional Raman spectroscopy, based on fifth-...

Experimental and theoretical study of the adsorption of fumaramide [2]rotaxane on Au(111) and Ag(111) surfaces.

Thin films of fumaramide [2]rotaxane, a mechanically interlocked molecule composed of a macrocycle and a thread in a "bead and thread" configuration, were prepared by vapor deposition on both Ag(111) and Au(111) substrates. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and high-resolution electron-energy-loss spectroscopy were used to characterize monolayer and bulklike multilayer films. XPS determina...

Superior anion induced shuttling behaviour exhibited by a halogen bonding two station rotaxane

Two bistable halogen and hydrogen bonding-naphthalene diimide [2]rotaxanes have been prepared and the system incorporating a halogen bond donor anion recognition site is demonstrated to exhibit superior anion induced translational motion of the macrocyclic wheel component relative to the hydrogen bonding analogue. Proton NMR spectroscopy is used to estimate the percentage occupancies of the mac...

Self-Assembly of [n]Rotaxanes Bearing Dendritic Stoppers⊥

We have developed a synthetic approach to the self-assembly of [2]-, [3]-, and [4]rotaxanes, incorporating bis-p-phenylene-34-crown-10 as the ring component(s) surrounding bipyridinium-based dumbbell-shaped components bearing dendritic stoppers at both ends. As a result of the hydrophobic dendritic framework, these [n]rotaxanes are soluble in a wide range of organic solvents, despite the polyca...
